Playground |
We have a fantastic playground at Warsaw with 3 distinct zones. Zone 1 includes the paved areas and all of the play structures. On the paved areas there are 2 basketball courts and space for 2 mini sticks games. We encourage students to bring their scooters and skateboards to use in this zone. Helmets must be worn. Zone 2 is the large upper field that hosts 1 soccer field and two baseball diamonds. Students may bring mountain bikes and off-road scooters to ride around the periphery of this area. Helmets must be worn. Zone 3 is the large lower field that houses 2 more baseball diamonds plus a rough, forested area which is perfect for building forts and engaging in imaginative play. In this zone we have many loose parts such as poles, stumps and rocks that the children can build with. |

Student Athletic Teams |
We offer as many sports opportunities for students as possible. Having a small number of students ensures that those who want to play, get to play. We invite interested parents and community members to come and volunteer as coaches, assistant coaches and / or helpers. Here's a list of sports teams that we've sent to tournaments this year:

Music Program |
Mr. Elia teaches music to all Grade 1 to 8 students. The Grade 1 to 5 students focus on percussion and vocal music while the Grade 6 to 8 students learn instruments. |

Clubs |
We offer a variety of clubs at the school. Some are season (e.g. knitting club) and others span the length of the year. Here are a few of our clubs:

Nutrition Program |
We have a fabulous Nutrition Program, thanks to parent extraordinaire, Jen Tighe, and the other parent and community volunteers who work with her. Each morning a selection of nutritious foods are delivered to classrooms just prior to the entry bell. We follow the guidelines laid out in the Food for Kids program that is run through Peterborough Public Health. Each day we must choose two of the following to be included: a grain, dairy, protein and fruit or vegetable. A weekly menu might look like this:
Our fabulous volunteers also organize many special meals and snacks, such as our pancake breakfast (pictured to the left), grilled cheese, smoothie day, and BBQs for various events. |

Mental Health & Well Being |
We work hard at Warsaw PS to be a Healthy School. With support from our Child & Youth Worker and utilizing funds provided through our partnership with Peterborough Public Health, we have many initiatives that promote health at the school. They include: - Kids Have Stress Too programming - Walking School Bus / Car Free Wednesdays - professionally led sports training for staff and students (e.g., Nordic Skiing, swimming, break dancing) - cultivating vegetable gardens for each classroom - The Great Big Crunch (we all eat an apple to help us remember that crunchy fruit and veggies are a GREAT choice) - development of student leadership (e.g., through guests such as Heidi, our guest skipping expert) - arts plays that focus on inclusion (e.g., Kids on the Block, TAS drama class annual production) You can see a Powerpoint presentation on our Main page. |
